Lucky JimHe’s on the latest MusicRiot Presents podcast, so we thought we’d find out a little more about Lucky Jim!

So, who are you?
My name is Gordon Grahame and I make records as Lucky Jim as well as under my own name.

What’s the story behind the name?
Lucky Jim was actually originally a combination of my self as writer and singer and Ben Townsend as Producer.

I am originally from Edinburgh, but met Ben in Brighton and made our first album “Our Troubles End Tonight” and soon signed to Dance Label Skint Records – not one of my better ideas. Read more

LooptronLooptron is featured on episode 4 of the MusicRiot Presents podcast, we wanted to find out more about him.

So, who are you?
Neil Sharkey, a.k.a. Looptron. Who the f**k are you? And what the f**k are you doing in my house?!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m 180 centimetres tall, weigh 75 kilograms, I’m an Aries, my favourite colour is blue and I have a morbid fear of that nasty fake tomato sauce you get on baked beans and spaghetti hoops. Read more

Aviv GeffenHe’s huge in his native Israel, playing in stadiums and out-selling major artists such as U2 and Madonna – while also keeping a celebrated political viewpoint.

But now Aviv Geffen has his sights set on become a big noise in the West. Already his collaboration with British musician Steven Wilson, of Porcupine Tree, called Blackfield has created two critically acclaimed albums and a number one single in Poland.

But tonight, for one night only, Geffen plays the intimate Bush Hall in what seems to be a hugely media-packed event. First on stage is scottish singer-songwriter Lucky Jim, who greatly impresses with his thoughtful lyrics and catchy tunes, including a very familar tune in “You’re Lovely to Me”. Find out more about Lucky Jim in an upcoming MusicRiot Presents… podcast. Read more

Rivers CuomoDefinitely interesting to any Weezer Fan. It gives you an insight into which parts of Weezer are exclusively Rivers’ input.

The first punch in the face though is the recording quality. A few minutes of this CD and I was left frustrated and very aware that my wallet was that little bit lighter. This isn’t a CD you’ll listen to in your car. In fact I’m not sure I’ll listen to most of it again unless for a quick look at what are very obviously demos. Read more

Green DayIn late 2003 an electronic pop-punk band mysteriously wearing masks appeared on Billie-Joe Armstrong’s record label under the name ‘The Network’.

Although there is no solid proof of identity there are strong arguments suggesting the band were actually Green Day in masks. Many think this to have been a bit of fun had by the band while finishing up 2004’s American Idiot.

Now, as Green Day is in the studio recording a new album for 2009 a band emerges from San Francisco under the name ‘Foxboro Hot Tubs’. Foxboro Hot Tubs fuse 60’s sounding garage rock with sounds very similar to green Day. There seems to be no pictures or information about the band online but many believe this to be another Green Day side project. Take a listen and judge for yourself at myspace.com/foxborohottubs

MorrisseyMorrissey will not be rescheduling three London concerts that were cancelled after the singer lost his voice.

The former Smiths frontman had been expected to announce new dates for three gigs at London’s Roundhouse but promoters SJM said they and the singer had “tried strenuously to reschedule the three shows but it proved impossible”.

The singer was advised to rest for four days after encountering problems during his Roundhouse gig on Friday 25 January, which led to the Saturday and Sunday night concerts being called off.

After his recent fracas with the NME about his reportedly racist comments to the music paper, Morrissey brings us his latest single, “That’s How People Grow Up”. And it’s nothing to make a fuss over.

This sub three minute song see’s Mozzer back in moderately disappointing form as he tackles Love, hurt and the lessons those two teach you. The sound is strikingly similar to any of his past couple of albums, and is not adventurous enough to keep anyone who has even the tiniest of Morrissey knowledge listening. The lyrics aren’t as interesting, different or observant as his best work.

Disappointing.
